President Donald Trump took credit for what he labeled "the best economy in our history" during a speech Tuesday before the National Electrical Contractors Association, whose members were gathered in Philadelphia for the group's annual convention.

Trump highlighted the economy and touted the renegotiated North American Free Trade Agreement during his 38-minute speech, the Philadelphia Enquirer reported. The president steered clear of the controversies that have plagued his administration. Still, Trump's comments before NECA were overshadowed by remarks he made later in the day at a Mississippi campaign rally in which he mocked the testimony of Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

"This is an incredible time for our nation. We are respected again like we have not been respected in decades," Trump told the NECA crowd, as reported by the Inquirer. "We have the best economy in our history."

The NECA convention kicked off Saturday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and concluded Tuesday. The crowd of about 6,000 stayed quiet throughout most of Trump's speech but applauded when the president mentioned issued that affected their bottom lines, the Inquirer reported.
